Review: Tailor Made by Josephine Myles

If I had to describe this book in just a few words I would say fun and sexy. Tailor Made is the perfect light story if you’re looking for something quick and entertaining to read.

Felix McAvoy is an art student famous for being a bit of a transgressor when it comes to art, and a bit of a slut when it comes to men. His latest mission is getting into the pants of his tutor and in order to do it he plans to impress him -and everyone else- by doing something quite subversive as his final art project.

Part of his project involves becoming a canvas and for that he needs a special suit. He enlists the help of Andrew, a fashion student who couldn’t be more different from Felix. Andrew is shy, serious, uptight and a virgin.

“I need a suit made. Nothing too fancy—I want it to be like a blank canvas so it‟ll need to be made of a fabric that looks like that. I‟m going to be the canvas for my final project.”

“You‟re asking me to make you a suit so you can paint on it?”

“Not exactly. It‟s to signify the pretentious nature of most modern art. I‟ll be mixing up some brown paint with sand and texturisers to replicate shit, and I‟m going to roll in it.”

At first, Andrew adamantly refuses Felix, who not only wants the suit but also Andrew (I told you he was slutty), but when his model has an emergency and has to leave, Andrew decides to accept. Now they must work together which proves to be quite difficult for Andrew since he feels an unwelcome attraction to Felix who’s doing his best to seduce him. As you can probably tell, Andrew won’t be a virgin for long.

I had fun reading this book. It’s the classic tale of opposite attract. Felix is slutty and flamboyant, while Andrew is virginal and serious. Both were likeable characters for a whole set of different reasons. I liked that they were young and acted accordingly, I went to College with guys like that, some where all about partying, some where all about studying and being serious. I could relate to both Andrew and Felix mostly because they were believable and had expectations and disappointments that I understood.

Even though the story is quite short, there’s character development and enough background to give the reader some insight into the characters. However, this is not a serious, dramatic book. If you’re looking for the most romantic and deep love story, you will be disappointed. If you’re looking for a couple of lost guys who find themselves in the process of falling in love, look somewhere else because that’s not what the story is about. If, on the other hand, you’re looking for a fun love story about two young guys fooling around and maybe finding something more, then go ahead and read the book.

This novella is all about the leads and their relationship. The conflict comes from how different they are and from them trying to figure out how to make their relationship work. The story is filled with hot sex and fun banter (as you can probably tell from the quote). Tailor Made is an entertaining book that I recommend to fans of contemporary romance, especially for those who like their reads on the steamy side.

Synopsis:

When Mr. Wrong measures up just right!
College tart Felix McAvoy is used to causing a stir with his conceptual art pranks, but for his final show he's planning something even more outrageous. In a last ditch attempt to seduce his jaded tutor, Felix plans to wear the canvas in a subversive display. If he's going to do this right, however, he'll need a tailor-made canvas suit. Fortunately, he knows just the tailor to turn to for the favour—and Felix isn't shy about offering favours of a very different kind in return.
First year fashion student Andrew Wheeler knows Felix by reputation only—and plans to keep things that way. Andrew's determined to save himself for the man of his dreams, and Felix couldn't be more different from his ideal Mr. Right. There's only one use Andrew will contemplate for Felix's body—a model for his end-of-year project. Trouble is, it's going to involve a lot of close contact with a nearly naked Felix, and Andrew's never had temptation quite so close at hand...

  1. Hey, I think we found one where the characters aren't so damaged but just normal with normal experiences. If you can define normal that way. Sounds like a quick and fun read. This might be one I'll need to check out since it doesn't seem so heavy.

Blogger likes to eat comments, so I suggest copying it before hitting "publish" just in case it doesn't go through the first time. This is a pain, I know, but it's the only solution/prevision I can think of, and it will save you the frustration of losing a comment. Also, thanks for visiting!
